Mission Statement
Established July 2012, the Tae Kwon Do class is an outreach ministry to the Lowell community by using/teaching martial arts as a shared experience to build relationships for the glory of God.
TKD Instruction
Instruction in traditional Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do will be provided by Robert Berrington III (3rd Dan) as taught by his instructor, Grand Master Mark D. Good (8th Dan), an original student of Grand Master Tae Z. Park (9th Dan), a direct student of the late Grand Master Woon Kyu Uhm (10th Dan).
A typical class involves Basics, Basic Kick, Form, One-Step Sparring (self defense) and Free-Fighting Sparring.
Safety is a priority. Students do not start fighting, or have any contact as beginners. As students progress, some faster than others, controlled light contact is allowed during one-step self defense and sparring. As students progress further, contact increases, but is still controlled.
Target Group
Any interested person/family is welcome to join and participate. From past experience it is recommended that children be at least 6-7 years old; although, this is mostly based on maturity, so exceptions can be made.
Liability
Tae Kwon Do is a full-contact sport including, but not limited to, punches, strike and kicks to the body and head. However, accidents and injury can and do occur, so no part of the body is completely safe.
Students will be required to fill out and sign (or be signed by a parent or legal guardian) a Medical Release/Waiver of Responsibility form.
Students will be required to complete a similar form for any promotional tests, tournaments or seminars.
Promotion
Students are invited to test at their instructor’s discretion and with parents’ permission.
Color Belt Tests
Students interested in Color Belt promotions will follow the schedule of tests (attached) in accordance with the Tae Park Tae Kwon Do and Good Institute guidelines. Typically a color belt promotion test occurs every 2-3 months. Students who work hard can be ready to test for the next Color Belt at each test opportunity. A single-level promotion is available to students who participate in Tae Park Tae Kwon Do sponsored tournaments/seminars.
Black Belt Tests
Students interested in Black Belt promotion will be at the discretion of the instructor. Following the Color Belt of Red 1, a student will be required to pass a Demonstration of Skills and two separate Black Belt tests (a single fee is assessed). The first Black Belt test is in accordance with the Good Institute requirements. The second Black Belt test is in accordance with the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF)/Tae Park Tae Kwon Do requirements. Students who successfully complete all requirements will be awarded a 1st Dan Black Belt and be registered with the Kukkiwon in Seoul, South Korea. Testing from 1st Dan to 2nd Dan eligibility is a minimum of 2 years and 12 years of age. Testing from 2nd Dan to 3rd Dan eligibility is a minimum of 3 years, 16 years of age, and an invitation/prior approval from Grand Master Good and Grand Master Park.

Tae Park Tae Kwon Do is a non-franchised/volunteer organization.
